Sorting Equipment Can Help You Prepare Your Livestock for Spring

When it comes to a livestock operation, spring and summer are often a hectic time when handling cattle, goat and sheep no matter where you are located. As winter eases into spring, you will likely be busy kidding, lambing, sorting and transporting your herds where they need to go.

As you already know, moving animals that have been overwintered, and their new offspring can be tricky as this is a stressful time for them, causing them to balk at walking into a chute or loading truck.

Our team at D-S Livestock Equipment is familiar with this scenario and offers a range of quality animal handling equipment that can make your job easier!

Sorting Equipment

Our 8-foot portable loading ramp – LR96 comes with balanced 10″ wheels which are easily pushed from either end of the device.
This ramp has five height setting adjustments at increments of 2, 2 ½, 3, 3 ½, and 4 feet. The bottom is 12″ wide to keep animals from turning around. The ramp has angled sides with the top having side panel adjusters to accommodate various loading heights.

Bi-Fold Sorter With Stop – the BS800 has a center panel which folds flat when you are sorting left or right, except when it is in a neutral position, the panel folds out flat to create a stop. The operation of the sorter is done through a 30″ handle with a trigger that locks and unlocks the sorter. It’s 30″ handle keeps you away from the sorter so animals can exit better. The BS800 also supports your raceway panels at the best angle and width.

At D-S Livestock Equipment, we keep a significant inventory on hand to make meeting your orders faster, and we can ship products internationally as well. We are also one of the only providers of hot dipped galvanized livestock equipment, which translates to no paint and no rust.

Help Your Livestock Operation Thrive With Weighing

Whether you are running a livestock operation with sheep, goat, and cattle or are raising animals to show, you’ll want to weigh your animals regularly to make sure they are developing properly, the operation is running smoothly, and you are getting the best return on your investment. At D-S Livestock Handling, we offer a wide range of scales with minimal stress for your animal to supply your operation’s needs.

Weighing your animals allows you to keep track of the health of your livestock which is important to your production. When you use the right equipment for the job, you’ll be able to quickly notice if there is a sudden drop in weight for an animal. When you know weight loss is happening, particularly rapid weight loss, you can contact your veterinarian immediately to see if there is a harmful disease that may potentially threaten your herd. Early treatment can keep illness and disease from spreading to the rest of your herd.

When you regularly weigh your animals, you can make sure they are gaining weight as they should and also measure how fast the weight gain is happening. This can help you know which animals need less feed (or more feed), and which ones need medical care. If you are breeding your livestock, a scale can help you make sure your animals are healthy and when the best time is for breeding. The animal’s weight can help your veterinarian to advise dietary changes or nutrients which may need to be added to the diet.

At D-S Livestock Equipment, we have been supplying high-quality equipment to various livestock operations since 1982. The Roll O’Matic with Scale Attachment comes with four beam load cells with an accurate weight indicator and indicator holder. It can quickly and accurately weigh your animal in the roll table without needing a separate scale. The RM6000S is fully galvanized to avoid rusting and allows the animal to enter easily with fewer distractions toward our V-type manual headgate, while the back support and headgate work to keep the animal in position.

We also have a 550-Pound Standard Dial that can be used with our SSD51 scale or with our S1102 winch stand scale attachment. Our 400-Pound scale uses a 7-inch dial with weight increments within 1-pound, with a maximum capacity of 400 pounds. Our digital scales, including the E500, have a maximum capacity of 500-pounds and is accurate within 1-pound increments. It also comes with a 1-year warranty. If you upgrade the E500 to our DS01, you’ll receive an RS232 printer and computer output. When fully charged the unit will have up to 40-hours of battery life which can help when weighing animals in areas where power may not be available.

If you are looking for weight scales that are accurate and durable, we invite you to call 800-949-9997 to speak with one of our knowledgeable representatives today!

Are You Ready for the Winter Kidding Season?

As the calendar nears the end of yet another seasonal cycle, it’s now almost time for winter kidding for your goat operation. At D-S Livestock Equipment, we have the equipment you need to keep your nanny and her offspring as comfortable as possible during this stressful period. With winter birthing for goats – who are smaller and have very little insulation compared to lambs and calves – we know that when the temperatures plummet, you will want to be prepared for your nanny and her kids and have the process run as efficiently as possible.

When temperatures drop below freezing the kids need to be dried quickly to avoid chilling and possible hypothermia. You don’t want one of the kids to lose a tip of an ear to frostbite or death. We supply high-quality panels, grafting boxes doors and pen components that can make your winter goat kidding operation run smoothly.

We offer lambing and kidding panels in various heights to fit your needs. They are strong even though they are also lightweight, and you can design your pens to range anywhere from 4×4 to 6×6 feet and use 7/16-inch rods. All panels are 41 inches high. The panel sizes come in 4 feet, 5 feet, or 6 feet tall and weigh 25 lbs., 30 lbs. or 33 lbs. respectively. Our creep doors have adjustable rollers with doors that open and close readily for easy access. Our creep panels have a spring-loaded latch and are hinged inside a heavy steel frame, with the doors opening both ways.

With the lamb and goat creep panels, the vertical and horizontal bars can be adjusted in both width and height. You can also add or take out rollers. You can place your pens against a wall or back to back as needed and our grafting box is readily connected to the pens. You can also attach the grafting box to the kidding panels to keep a nanny in position if one of her kids has a rejection problem and still needs to nurse. With the grafting box the nanny may be stood up or adjusted for longer periods should she need to lie down. The grafting box is highly portable as well so you can move it from pen to pen as needed. When it comes to our products, our goal is to strive for ease of use along with convenience.
