Protect Your Livestock Operation With the Help of a Quality Mineral Feeder

At D-S Livestock Equipment we are confident that you will find the livestock handling equipment you need at the prices you want. We have been shipping our equipment around the world for some time now for highly satisfied customers. Whether you run a cattle, sheep or goat operation, you’ll find the quality equipment you are looking for!

Keeping your livestock healthy is the number one priority and we can help you do that. This time of year, pastures are growing and feeding your animals for local foraging. Supplementing their foraging means having the proper feeders that allow them easy access to their nutritional needs.

Healthy livestock depend on the feed they are getting and the mineral augmentation their bodies require to avoid deficiencies from their diet. If you have animals displaying any of the following, they may have a mineral deficiency:

  • Poor growth rate
  • Reduced appetite
  • Lost weight
  • Diminished milk production
  • Lowered reproduction

Your livestock may benefit from supplementing their feed with the minerals they need to stay healthy and productive, Including:

  • phosphorus
  • magnesium
  • salt
  • calcium
  • potassium
  • zinc
  • copper
  • selenium
  • sulfur
  • manganese
  • cobalt
  • iron
  • iodine

The mineral feeders we offer at D-S Livestock Equipment, the MF1 mineral feeder, holds up to 50 pounds of mineral supplement. It has a feeder edge of 15 inches, while the MF2 mineral feeder holds 20 pounds of mineral supplement and is 13 inches from the ground. Made from a one-piece molded polyurethane unit, they come with a round 36-inch steel base that turns from the wind movement. You can count on the feeder to avoid inclement weather exposure from rain, sleet, snow, and other kinds of moisture that could damage the feed.

We welcome you to check out our high-quality mineral feeders as well as our other feeders to protect your livestock’s health. You can also call us at 1-800-949-9997 and we are happy to answer your questions.

Weighing Your Sheep and Goat Accurately and With Minimal Stress for Healthier Stock

This time of year when we’re heading into spring and sheep or goats may soon be giving birth, it’s important to be able to weigh your animals regularly and accurately. If there’s a problem, they’ll need to be checked by your veterinarian to make sure there’s no threat of disease that could impact the rest of the animals.

Proper feed schedules with the necessary dietary nutrients they need, along with prompt medical treatment can be especially helpful when you are breeding your livestock. Help Your Livestock Operation Thrive With Weighing

Whether you are running a livestock operation with sheep, goat, and cattle or are raising animals to show, you’ll want to weigh your animals regularly to make sure they are developing properly, the operation is running smoothly, and you are getting the best return on your investment. At D-S Livestock Handling, we offer a wide range of scales with minimal stress for your animal to supply your operation’s needs.

Weighing your animals allows you to keep track of the health of your livestock which is important to your production. When you use the right equipment for the job, you’ll be able to quickly notice if there is a sudden drop in weight for an animal. When you know weight loss is happening, particularly rapid weight loss, you can contact your veterinarian immediately to see if there is a harmful disease that may potentially threaten your herd. Early treatment can keep illness and disease from spreading to the rest of your herd.

When you regularly weigh your animals, you can make sure they are gaining weight as they should and also measure how fast the weight gain is happening. This can help you know which animals need less feed (or more feed), and which ones need medical care. If you are breeding your livestock, a scale can help you make sure your animals are healthy and when the best time is for breeding. The animal’s weight can help your veterinarian to advise dietary changes or nutrients which may need to be added to the diet.

At D-S Livestock Equipment, we have been supplying high-quality equipment to various livestock operations since 1982. The Roll O’Matic with Scale Attachment comes with four beam load cells with an accurate weight indicator and indicator holder. It can quickly and accurately weigh your animal in the roll table without needing a separate scale. The RM6000S is fully galvanized to avoid rusting and allows the animal to enter easily with fewer distractions toward our V-type manual headgate, while the back support and headgate work to keep the animal in position.

We also have a 550-Pound Standard Dial that can be used with our SSD51 scale or with our S1102 winch stand scale attachment. Our 400-Pound scale uses a 7-inch dial with weight increments within 1-pound, with a maximum capacity of 400 pounds. Our digital scales, including the E500, have a maximum capacity of 500-pounds and is accurate within 1-pound increments. It also comes with a 1-year warranty. If you upgrade the E500 to our DS01, you’ll receive an RS232 printer and computer output. When fully charged the unit will have up to 40-hours of battery life which can help when weighing animals in areas where power may not be available.

If you are looking for weight scales that are accurate and durable, we invite you to call 800-949-9997 to speak with one of our knowledgeable representatives today!

A Portable Loading Ramp Aids in Seasonal Sorting

Spring and early summer can be a time of frenetic activity for goat, sheep and cattle operations around the country. This often calls for kidding, lambing, sorting and transporting herds.

Moving overwintered animals and young to their new grounds can be challenging. Sometimes even a willing animal will refuse to simply step up into a loading truck or chute.

Here at D-S Livestock Equipment, we understand these factors and we provide a wide range of animal handling solutions. This includes our 8-foot portable loading ramp.

The LR96 has well balanced 10-inch wheels that are easy to push from either end of the device. The amp has 5 height setting adjustments at increments of 2, 2 ½, 3, 3 ½, and 4 feet. The bottom of the unit is 12 inches wide to prevent animals from turning around.

It also features angled sides and the top of ramp includes side panel adjusters to accommodate different loading heights.

We keep a significant inventory on hand to help meet orders quickly. D-S Livestock Equipment can ship products on an international level.

If you have a goat, sheep, cattle, or other livestock operation in need of quality loading ramps or other supplies, you should call 800-949-9997 to speak to a representative at D-S Livestock Handling Equipment.

Quality Gates and Sorting Equipment Can Help Sort Goats and Sheep

Sorting is an important aspect of many goat and sheep operations. However manual or hand sorting can be time and labor intensive. Having high-quality gates and sorting equipment can help manage your herds while also saving you precious man hours.

Here at D-S Livestock Equipment, we can work with you to develop a sorting system that meets the needs of your goat or sheep herd.

Our Two-Way Sorter folds to accommodate different raceway widths. It sorts animals left or right by a 24-inch operating handle. This keeps you away from the front of the sheep or goat so they exit the raceway better. The unit also has a lock to keep the sorter in left or right sort position.

Our Two-Way Sorter with Stop is a unique 3-in-1 gate that is easy to operate. It has a single handle that is capable of three different functions. It can stop animals, cut animals right, or cut animals left. The unit comes with a lock handle so it can be held securely in any position. The stop gate is built into the sorter allowing sheep and goats to be slowed for closer observation before sorting.

Our Bi-Fold Sorter with Stop has a center panel that folds flat while sorting left or right. When you put the unit in the neutral position, the panel folds out flat to act as a stop. It is operated by a 30-inch handle which can lock and unlock the sorter. This handle length provides you with added distance from the sorter so animals exit better. The unit also supports your raceway panels at the proper angle and width.

If you have a sheep or goat operation and you need quality sorting equipment, you should call 800-949-9997 to speak to a representative at D-S Livestock equipment.

Can You Raise Sheep and Goats Together?

Sheep and goats are two of the most popular ruminant animals for everyone from the “serious” farmer to people looking to raise affordable meat, milk, and wool on patches of larger land. However, a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that raising sheep and goats together is a simple process. The truth is that it takes a good degree of work. Let’s look at a few of the things you need to know when raising sheep and goats together.

Different food

If you plan to let your sheep and goats graze in the same area, you need to keep in mind that they prefer different types of vegetation. Additionally, goats need mineral supplements to stay healthy – especially copper. The kicker here is that copper can be deadly to sheep if they ingest too much of it.

For this reason, many farmers who keep both goats and sheep have separate feeding areas for both animals, and add the extra copper goats need to their feed – not out in the field where it could potentially harm your sheep.

Watch the horns

Almost all goats have horns, while sheep don’t. It’s important to watch out for violent behavior, as goats may try to establish dominance in the pack over sheep. You also want to keep lambs and kids with their mothers, separate from older sheep and goats that could potentially harm them.

The ROI on Raising Goats

Ranchers know the ins and outs of raising cattle. The age-old adage, “The only way to make a million in ranching is to start with two million” rings true for many ranchers.

However, a lot of agricultural folks have recently turned to goats as a solid investment alongside larger cattle or dairy operations. But is the trend really producing a positive ROI?

Let’s take a look.

Know your goat

One of the biggest challenges with raising goats – for both meat and dairy purposes – is the fact that they’ll eat just about anything. To raise a healthy herd you need to make sure they have access to clean water and food at all times. Here at [practice_name] we have plenty of goat feeding equipment to take this worry away from your herd.

Show goats

If you have any interest in showing goats, you need to socialize with them on a daily basis. It takes a while for goats to become friendly with humans, so ensuring that you spend a good amount of time with them makes sure they’ll be great once show season rolls around.

Goats can be a great investment for any rancher looking to produce a bit of extra money. If you have more questions, call us today at [phone].

Livestock Show Equipment

With winter gripping most of the nation, the southern states are proudly hosting quite a few livestock shows. If you’re looking to thin the herd a bit before heading into spring, you’ll want to sell what livestock you can at these shows.

However, even your best stock – from sheep to cattle – can benefit from great show equipment. That’s why our team at [practice_name] is here to help you out. Let’s look at a few of the options we offer to help you show off your stock in the best manner possible.

Stands

From sheep to cattle, we have stands that’ll help present any of your stock better to potential buyers. Especially if you’re selling smaller cattle for their growth potential (especially any Angus you may have in your herd), these stands are guaranteed to show off your stock in a great way and stand up to the abuse of the show circuit.

Hay baskets

When you’re off on the show circuit, you don’t want your stock eating feed that you don’t know for a fact is the type you’d give them at home. For that reason, you should look at our hay baskets and see how they’ll provide great, durable transportation of feed from show to show so you don’t have to worry about feed while on the road.

If you have any other questions about show equipment, or your livestock in general, call us today at [phone].
